Granted, a typical Saturday night usually means a busy restaurant. We can tell that they’re really trying to be the best Mexican restaurant in town, and the huge variety of menu options, food quality, tasty salsa, and smooth margaritas do not disappoint! But the last two visits have exposed a few weaknesses-mainly having to do with service. There is much to enjoy at this restaurant. We’ve dined at Riviera Maya a few times over the past two years and keep hoping they’ll work the kinks out. It’s a shame because this would really be the best Mexican venue in town if they could just polish up the service end of things.As frequent visitors to the area, we always loved the previous incarnation of Riviera Maya (f.k.a. But “busy” shouldn’t necessarily mean that you have to 1) wait almost 25 minutes for your entrees, 2) chase the server to request the missing sour cream originally ordered with your dinners, 3) discover that your entree was accidentally switched with one intended for another customer, 4) not be offered any drink refills during the meal, and 5) not be offered any sort of discount-or maybe free dessert?-for the aforementioned hiccups.
